Fresh Ideas for Family Fun

Our days of isolation have turned into weeks and weeks into months. For many of those remaining at home alone, it’s been hard to remain connected and to keep from sliding into depression. Those staying inside with family have faced other challenges, including keeping kids entertained as quarantine has gone on. Here are some ideas from Cook County podiatrist Dr. Stavros O. Alexopoulos to keep you moving forward through spring:

  1. Tired of the same old board games? There are so many out there! Spend a little time researching online and be sure to read the reviews, then order one that is appropriate for all members of your family.
  2. Dig a little deeper into the movie and television archives online. Show the kids something you remember fondly from your childhood. How about the Back to the Future movies or Welcome Back, Kotter? They’re as amusing now as they were then, and many options stream free of charge.
  3. Make a playlist of the music that was popular when you were a teenager and host a family dance party. Encourage era-appropriate costumes.
  4. Now that you’ve shared your favorites with the kids ask them to share theirs with you. Spend an evening watching their favorite Netflix shows and YouTube channels or listening to their favorite pop artists. You might even find something that you can enjoy together moving forward!
  5. Look up a new dinner or dessert recipe and cook something together. How about a new version of a family favorite?
