Orthotics – Customized for You to Relieve Foot Pain

What are orthotics? The word comes from the Greek meaning to straighten or align. Orthotic devices are custom-made inserts that fit into your shoes to comfort and support your feet.

Because they are custom-made, they are specifically designed to treat your diagnosed condition and to fit only your feet. Over-the-counter shoe inserts available at retail stores may provide temporary relief from your symptoms but can’t cure chronic biomechanical or chronic foot issues.

In addition to relieving pain and foot fatigue and restoring balance, custom orthotics can also improve sports performance by stabilizing the joints and minimizing soft tissue vibrations.

Orthotics Successfully Treat Many Foot Conditions

Stavros O. Alexopoulos, DPM, board certified podiatrist in Chicago, describes orthotics as either functional, to address problems related to foot and ankle motion, or accommodative, which allow for extra support and cushioning to relieve pain.

Orthotics can relieve pain and other symptoms of a wide variety of foot and ankle problems such as:

  • Arch issues like flat feet or abnormally high arches
  • Arthritis
  • Bunions
  • Calluses and corns
  • Degenerative diseases
  • Foot pain
  • Heel pain
  • Misalignments
  • Pain in the ball of the foot
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Sports injuries
  • Tendonitis
  • Toe problems like clawtoe and hammertoe

Children with flat feet or who “in-toe” will benefit from adding orthotics to their shoes.

Custom Made Just for You

Dr. Alexopoulos will carefully examine your feet and observe you as you walk. To fit your orthotics, we take a mold of your foot right here in our office that is sent to a lab for an exact customized match.

Custom-made orthotics are created from top-quality materials and are more durable than over-the-counter shoe inserts. With proper care they will last for years. Keep them in good shape with regular, gentle washings with a mild soap and lukewarm water.
