Plantar Fasciitis Attacks the Heel with Force

Plantar Fasciitis is a painful condition affecting the heel and gets worse with normal day to day walking, running or any other sports activity. This condition involves the plantar fascia, which is a ligament that connects the heel bone and toes and is usually the cause of lingering heel pain. The purpose of this ligament is to support the foot’s arch. If the plantar fascia is strained, it can become inflamed, causing pain on the heel when walking. Repeated stress can cause miniature tears in the ligament.

This condition is common among middle-aged individuals, but can also occur in younger people if they happen to spend a lot of time on their feet. Factors leading to this condition include the following:

Methods of treatment include getting plenty of rest for the feet, reducing high intensity activities that put great amount of pressure on the feet, utilizing ice to reduce swelling, stretching toes and calves early in the morning when pain from this condition is at its worst, orthotics and wearing shoes with proper arch support and padding to cushion the sole

when spending long amounts of time on your feet. Since this condition can cause heel pain that can interfere with your normal activities, please contact a podiatrist as soon as you can to get proper treatment for your heel and to stop the pain in your heel.
