Plantar Fasciitis May Worsen by Cycling

Plantar Fasciitis can be a painful condition that affects many day to day activities. This condition affects the plantar fascia, which protects the arch of the foot and allows us to walk, jump, run, and move. It is an essential part of the mechanics of the foot and extends from the heel bone to the ball of the foot. The plantar fascia engages as the big toe releases from the ground when walking or running.

Plantar fasciitis occurs when the foot’s arch becomes swollen or if the plantar fascia sustains an injury like a tear. It’s not that surprising to learn that cyclists are prone to developing this condition since they place large amounts of pressure underneath the foot, which is where the arch is located. Untreated cases will result in severely compromised healing processes due to the deterioration of collagen in the area and can cause calcium deposits to develop. Factors that lead to the development of this condition include inadequate cycling shoes which may result in added pressure to the foot.
