You Don’t Have to Live with Heel Pain

Does the heel area of your foot hurt? Is it worst when you first get up in the morning, or does the pain increase during the day? Heel pain may not be a symptom of a serious condition but the pain often interferes with your normal day-to-day activity and can prevent you from exercising.

Identifying the Cause of Heel Pain

There are many different causes of heel pain, ranging from an injury to tendonitis and from inflammation to arthritis.

To assess the cause of heel pain, Stavros O. Alexopoulos, DPM will completely examine your feet and ankles, take x-rays and review your medical history with you. We may even do a blood test to look for infection or arthritis.

Treatment Methods

Located in our Chicago office, the goal of our Heel Pain Center is to relieve your pain while avoiding surgery if possible.

We will first apply non-invasive treatments like physical and massage therapy and prescribe custom-made orthotics to alleviate pain and stop the progress of the problem. A shot of steroid medication into the tender area can provide temporary relief from the pain.

Surgery either in our office or at a nearby surgical center or hospital may be recommended if your lifestyle or athletic performance is affected.

Don’t Delay Treatment of Heel Pain

Left untreated, heel pain worsens and your body begins to compensate by limping. This imbalance results in excessive pressure on the other foot as well as alignment issues in your knees, hips and lower back.

A visit to our Heel Pain Center and a consultation with Dr. Alexopoulos, board certified podiatrist, will set you on the path to recovery and resuming all your normal activities. Contact us soon to make an appointment at our Chicago office.
